PASSIVE EXERCISES
Â
Passive exercises are highly effective and essential in myofunctional therapy. These exercises help to change the neural pathways to the brain and improve the function of the orofacial muscles. This can lead to a variety of benefits, including improved tongue posture, reduced mouth breathing, and enhanced overall oral health.Â
The passive nature of these exercises allows for integration into our daily lives, making it easier to consistently practice and reinforce new muscle patterns. Over time, these exercises can help to correct dysfunctional habits, strengthen and retain the muscles involved in breathing, swallowing, and speaking, promoting optimal oral function.
PUFFER FISHÂ
BEGIN IN SESSION ONE
Â
Puffer fish is an exercise that is used to promote nasal breathing and strengthen key orofacial muscles. By sealing the lips, the lip muscles are activated, while the muscles of the cheeks work to keep the air in place. This exercise supports proper oral posture, improves facial muscle tone, enhances swallowing function, and helps reduce mouth breathing and drooling. It’s a simple yet effective technique often used in myofunctional therapy to encourage healthy breathing and oral habits.
MOUTH TAPING
BEGIN IN WEEK THREE
Â
Mouth taping is a technique that is used to encourage a proper lip seal and proper tongue posture, and promotes nasal breathing. Breathing through the nose is the natural and optimal way to breathe, especially during sleep. This technique can help improve oxygenation, reduce snoring, and promote overall better sleep quality.
IT IS IMPORTANTÂ to start with daytime taping to assess is there is any struggle with nasal breathing prior to ever attempting nighttime taping. Start with 5 minutes each day, working towards daytime taping for up to an hour.
STANDARD EXERCISES
Passive exercises are to be performed daily while doing other activities to help change the neural pathways to the brain.
These exercises are recommended if a Myofunctional Appliance has not been included in therapy.

MYO SPOTS
- Place a MYO Spot on the tip of the tongue.
- Place the tongue tip to the spot, holding the MYO Spot in place on the spot.
- Relax and close your mouth and lips.
- Hold the MYO Spot to the spot using the tongue tip for up to 5 minutes or until it dissolves, 2x/day.Â
MYO Spots are dissolvable pads that adhere right to your palate. They come in 3 flavours, strawberry, banana, and blueberry. Follow the link provided to order your MYO SPOTS, and get them delivered right to your door.
TUBES UNDER LIPS
BEGIN IN SESSION FIVE UNLESS PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED
Â
This exercise will help train and strengthen the muscles responsible for lip closure. By engaging these muscles and encourage proper lip seal, better lip control, improved speech, and swallowing patterns, and enhanced muscle tone. This exercise can be particularly helpful for individuals with lip incompetence or weak lip muscles. Â
Â
TUBE CHEWS
BEGIN IN SESSION FIVE UNLESS PREVIOUSLY ASSIGNED
Â
This exercise can help enhance overall oral function. The resistance provided by the tube during chewing leads to improved muscle tone and control, which is essential for proper swallowing, speech and facial aesthetics. The repetitive chewing motion can stimulate blood flow to the facial muscles, promoting relaxation and reducing tension.

FROGGY MOUTH APPLIANCE
Passive exercises are to be performed daily while doing other activities to help change the neural pathways to the brain.
These are the exercises recommended if a FROGGY MOUTH has been included in therapy.
IT MAKES YOUR TONGUE POSITION AND NASAL BREATHING REHABILITATIONS DURABLE BY COMPLETELY INHIBITING THE PRIMARY SWALLOWING SEQUENCE. FROGGYMOUTH IS DESCRIBED AS ANOETIC BECAUSE IT DOES NOT REQUIRE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION FROM THE PATIENT.
(*Anoetic: “expressed without consciousness”) FROGGY MOUTH was conceptualized by Doctor Fellus at the Robert Debré University Hospital to meet the need for stability in treatments. It will achieve multidisciplinary success thanks to its simple, effective protocol with a specific therapeutic objective: the automation of functional balance.

Chewing enhances the strength of jaw and mouth muscles to assist in optimal oral health and function. Just like any part of the body, the jaw and facial muscles need the right kind of exercise/movement to stay healthy. That’s where the Munchee comes in…
With just 10 minutes of daily chewing exercise, children and adults can improve the tone and function of muscles of the lips, face and jaws, that has been lost with today's western industrialized diet. The Munchee also encourages lip closure, correct resting tongue placement & swallow pattern and promotes nasal breathing.
MYO MUNCHEE
USED FOR 10 MINUTES A DAY;Â EXPLORE THE BENEFITS
Ensure the Munchee is placed in the mouth with the "lips" indent/notch at the top.Â
Always keep the lips closed around the Munchee while holding passively in the mouth and actively chewing. This not only strengthens the muscles, but also prevents excessive wear on the device.
HOLD the Munchee in the mouth passively. ONLY ONCE it is tolerated and lips stay sealed for 1 minute, THEN commence chewing.
Start with 20 seconds, work up to 1 minute to begin.
ONLY chew for the length of time the Munchee is passively held in the mouth. For example, if you can passively hold the Munchee with lips sealed for only 30 seconds, only actively chew with lips sealed for 30 seconds.
Keep your chewing even on both sides, chewing excessively or exclusively on one side may damage or weaken the Munchee.
Rinse after use in cold running water and dry thoroughly. Aim for 5 minutes of active chewing, twice a day as an ideal protocol.
