BREATHING EXERCISES

Breathing Exercises

Breathing exercises play a key role in myofunctional therapy by helping to restore proper nasal breathing and support optimal oral function. These exercises strengthen the diaphragm, improve oxygen exchange, and encourage calm, rhythmic breathing patterns. By focusing on nasal inhalation and controlled exhalation, clients can reduce mouth breathing, enhance tongue posture, and support better sleep, focus, and energy levels. Regular breathing practice also promotes relaxation, reduces tension in facial muscles, and supports the long-term success of myofunctional therapy goals.

 The Buteyko Breathing Method

Created by Dr. Konstantin Buteyko and popularized globally by Patrick McKeown, helps people improve their health by retraining the way they breathe. It’s based on the idea that many issues—like asthma, anxiety, allergies, and sleep problems—are linked to chronic over-breathing. By using specific exercises to slow and reduce breathing, the method helps restore healthy breathing patterns, improve oxygen delivery, and raise carbon dioxide levels in the body. With regular practice, it can boost energy, ease breathing-related symptoms, and support relaxation and overall well-being.

FLOATING BALL

This is a breathing exercise that will require using the Pipe Ball Whistle. Breathing in through the nose and slowly breathing out of the mouth trying to keep the ball floating in the air. DO NOT fill the cheeks with air, or bite on the end of the whistle.  Gently place it in the lips. DO this for 1 minute on and off 2x/day.  Stop, close the mouth and breathe gently in and out of the nose if experiencing dizziness.
